As most of my readers should know, in November I got the Titan themed Comic Bento Box. I gave it a 3/5 on opening it as it looked like I would be into most of the Marvel books, and the others were kind of hit or miss but was excited to see how the rest turned out.
Most of us have grown up hearing the saying “Dont judge a book by its cover”, I always like to come back after reading the books and take a second look at it
Best Book from the Box: Kaijumax Season One by Zander Cannon . Right after getting this box, one of my favorite pod casts was giving season 2 of Kaijumax it’s top pick of the week. Seeing as I normally agree with these guys, I grabbed this book and started reading it. I was so surprised on some of the topics this deals with and how great of a book this actually one. This is more than giant monsters in prison fighting each other, it also deals with things on the topics of drug abuse, rape, and emotional abuse. While the art is very colorful and bright this ranges on more than just a feel good book. With a price tag of $9.99 in the U.S. I find this hard not to recommend to anyone who enjoys comics.
Best Use of the Theme: Thrud The Barbarian. This was the first book I picked up from this box, I read the first page and put it down. When I came back to it and started reading the first story took a little bit to get into, however once I was finished it, I didn’t put the book down. Thrud is what I think of whenever I hear of Barbarians, he wants to fight and drink ale. If this was DND he would be the best fighter with the lowest of intelligence. This book reminds me of a bunch of comical DND adventures, and was surprisingly great!
Worst Book from the Box: The Champions No Time for Losers . This was the book I was the most looking forward to in the box, but I just couldn’t get into it. It’s from 1975, and while the team was different (Hercules, Black Widow, Ghost Rider, Iceman and Angle), it was very odd and dated.
Rating Afterwords: 3.5/5 –This box was really good. Kaijumax is a must read and I was pleasantly surprised with both Warlords of Mars and Thrud. This box is perfect for someone like who wants to try new things as it’s different from what I would read.
